Are Trump’s Methods Mirroring Viktor Orban’s Control Tactics?

Are Trump’s Methods Mirroring Viktor Orban’s Control Tactics?

In an Atlantic article America’s Future Is Hungary by Anne Applebaum, it is revealed that Donald Trump might be using the ruler of Hungary, Viktor Orban methods for gaining fastest power over the United States.

Is this true or not?

Lets list some of the major points that Anne Applebaum reveals that Orban has used and then compare if Donald Trump is applying any of those methods in an effort to determine what Trump’s ambitions might be or not.  I will change Anne Applebaum’s list of factors to properly point to Donald Trump.  Hopefully the efforts promoted by Orban upon Trump will not turn the United States into a dictatorship.

MAGA conservatives love Viktor Orbán. But he’s left his country corrupt, stagnant, and impoverished.

Trump will slowly replace civil servants with loyalists.

“The Trump “administration is scrapping a nonpartisan, merit-based civil service in favor of a biased, politicized system.”

Trump will use economic pressure and regulation to destroy the free press.

“Donald Trump is obsessed with punishing journalists who criticize him.”

Trump intends to robbed universities of their independence.

“The Trump administration is seeking to exert extraordinary influence over American universities by threatening to cut them off from funding and, in some cases, students.”

Shut one of the United States universities down.

“Besides Harvard, the Trump administration has said it would end or limit federal money to a number of universities.”

  • Brown, which the Trump administration said stood to lose $510 million.
  • Columbia, which is hoping to regain about $400 million in canceled grants and contracts after it bowed to a list of demands from the federal government. But the administration is now taking aim at the university’s accreditation.
  • Cornell, the target of a cut of at least $1 billion.
  • Northwestern, which administration officials said would be stripped of $790 million.
  • The University of Pennsylvania, which saw $175 million in federal funding suspended because of its approach to a transgender athlete who participated in school sports in 2022.
  • Princeton, which said “dozens” of grants had been suspended. The White House indicated that $210 million was at risk.

Trump will politicized the court system.

“President Donald Trump and his allies have led an intense pressure campaign on the judiciary four months into his administration. Both sides of the political spectrum are using the term constitutional crisis.”

“It’s an all-out war on the lower courts,” said former federal Judge John Jones III

Trump repeatedly changes the constitution to give himself electoral advantages.

“Many experts are now saying that we are witnessing a power grab, a constitutional crisis, or even a coup. Those of us who have studied the weakening of democratic governments around the world take no comfort in the similarity between the rapid collapse of government institutions in the United States in the last few weeks and collapsing democracies elsewhere, where aspirational autocrats, emboldened by electoral victory, take office and remove all checks on their power by law. When they get away with it, democracy dies.”

Trump will give himself emergency powers.

“President Trump justified the imposition of tariffs on Canada. China, and Mexico under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA)”

Trump aligns himself openly with Russia.

“ President Trump and his team are directly and indirectly tied to Russia.”
