T-Mobile Handset Insurance

T-Mobile Handset Insurance

T-Moblile may be one of the best out of a lowly lot of cell phone providers for my area in North Orange County, California.  One major flaw for T-Mobile may be their handset insurance.  If your battery dies you can ONLY get a mail replacement (really stupid).  If the store has a direct replacement in stock they will charge you full price (This can range roughly between 30 and 50 dollars).  This shows their apparent lack of customer service and…

Best Buy and Kaspersky Anti Virus

Best Buy and Kaspersky Anti Virus

When  I purchased my new Toshiba Satellite laptop a few years ago I got an incentive deal to have Kaspersky Anti Virus software installed on my computer from Best Buy.  The deal sounded sweet but my son, an IT student, said I was nuts because Windows 7 had pretty good anti virus protection.  I had already agreed to the minimal introductory cost.  Then January 17, 2012 I get an automatic renewal notice warning me that I am to be charged…

Dancing With Magazines and Newspapers.

Dancing With Magazines and Newspapers.

It all started when I was offered a year’s subscription to the Wall Street Journal for one year, an introductory rate.  The cost seemed most reasonable, just over one hundred dollars.  I said yes but after one year the cost more than doubled.   I quickly canceled when the rate went up.  In about three months, I get a call offering me the introductory rate again for one year.  I said yes but had to also say yes to auto renewal. …

Problems with Amazon.com

Problems with Amazon.com

I purchased a men’s cologn from Amazon.com.  The actual shipper turned out to be some small apartment business run by an alleged student. The item shipped was a less than half size. I purchased a cell phone application.  I had to remove my cell phone cover to reveal the model number to specify the correct software.   Upon placing the cover back on, I noticed that a second software was selected as as a future purchase.  I tried hit the…

Southern California Edison might not be all that concerned in saving energy.

Southern California Edison might not be all that concerned in saving energy.

(Or allegedly stupid about some energy factors). Our pool pump went out the end of 2009.  I did quite a lot of research and found out the following: Two speed or variable speed pumps are required in California to save energy.  These motors are way more expensive than single speed motors. Every pool supply vendor failed to inform me of that California requirement and would be most willing to sell me a single speed motor.  I was extremely surprised that…

Adobe Creative Suite CS4

Adobe Creative Suite CS4

I love the Adobe suite of products for the web.  It costs a lot of money but Dreamweaver and Photoshop really are most professional and one saves money, sometimes, by buying more than one software in a bundle.  I even have accepted Bridge even though it seems a bit awkward.  My infatuation was put to the test with the most recent upgrade, CS4.  The installation went swell until I noticed that Dreamweaver failed to install.  Of all the products in…

Free Birthday Drinks At Starbucks?

Free Birthday Drinks At Starbucks?

I had early the same morning purchased my sleeping zebra for myself and a grande mocha Frappuccino  for my son at Albertsons Super Market, 2500 E. Imperial Highway in Brea, California.  Later the same day I took my daughter over to the same Starbucks inside the same Albertsons to get my daughter a mocha Frappuccino.  My daughter told the barista that it was my birthday.  The barista reminded us that I could get a free drink because it was my…

Credit Union vs Bank

Credit Union vs Bank

Renewal for my safe deposit box is up again this month with Union Bank.  The bank decided to add a fee of $15 to our annual $85 safe deposit box fee because we do not have a checking account with that bank.   I have all my bank accounts with a wonderful credit union, called Schools First.   Credit unions are simply the best while banks, in my opinion, subscribe to the greed principal, and the $15 added fee, allegedly, was right…

E-Trade Review

E-Trade Review

E-Trade.   We do not recommend this company.  If you’re a day trader, you might look at this company.  For the small investor and anyone who wishes to buy and hold stocks for the long run, do NOT consider this company.  They charge extremely high inactivity  fees that will diminish your investments over time.  Our experience was the fees to be $40 each quarter for a yearly total of $160 if one fails to make a trade within an allocated…
