Current Internet Performance Factor

Current Internet Performance Factor

A lot of data continuously moves around the world through some major infrastructure wiring. As with any complicated utility, the performance of the total system can change. Good performance is when packets are sent swiftly and reliably. Simplistically, a total performance number can be totaled up for the whole system but its value is questionable unless the whole planet is affected. External factors such as radiation from the sun can, at times, disrupt accurate packet travel. If a major fiber…

Apple Repairs Computer That Is Out Of Warantee

Apple Repairs Computer That Is Out Of Warantee

We have a iMac 20 inch computer that was purchased September 2004.  Beginning the summer of 2008 it began to exhibit some disturbing symptoms.  It would not wake up from sleep mode.  The fans would race at high speed for hours.  Some times the computer would begin to shut itself off.  We took the computer in to the Genius Bar, at an Apple store, September 2008.  The technician looked the computer over and told us they would repair the unit…

LaCie All-Terraine Hard Disk (250GB) Recommended

LaCie All-Terraine Hard Disk (250GB) Recommended

One of the major pains for me is to find an external storage solution for my Mac Power PC G4. This model limits its USB port power to the 500ma specified in the standards for this type of port. Problem is that hard drives will draw a lot more than 500ma, especially for start up. You will find that most all manufacturers that sell portable hard drives fail to include the USB Y cable to draw power from two USB…

Review of Adobe Dreamweaver CS3 by Garrick Chow

Review of Adobe Dreamweaver CS3 by Garrick Chow I have been working on web sites for over five years. My first training was at a state university extension class. It was a great introduction but I quickly realized that web site design would require a lot more effort, a lot more books for me to read. Over time, I was amazed at how web site development has changed and for anyone not making a good effort at keeping current; your…

Microsoft mouse model 1054.

Microsoft mouse model 1054.

This is an RF mouse, not Blue Tooth. It requires a USB dongle be inserted into the computer which I think is somewhat dangerous as it protrudes just over two inches. The specifications give this mouse a two foot range, I believe. I found that it was often times less than one foot. When playing World of Warcraft the mouse would loose contact causing numerous drop outs. I was embarrassed when I could not help other characters on quests and…

Is the Macintosh laptop really overheating or not?

Dear Members (SBMUG), My friend has a G3, 12″ laptop which she feels is overheating. She heard that the problem might be one of three things: The Battery The Fan Dust inside the case. Does anyone have experience with this? Are there members that can fix this problem? Off list replies are welcome. Thanks. David ________________________________ David, Have your friend get this Widget: iStat Pro. It will show the temperatures inside the computer and if the fans are running or…

Formatting tools missing from Firefox.

Formatting tools missing from Firefox.

I was notified at the begriming of June, 2007 that Firefox offered an upgrade.   I completed the upgrade and then decided upon including some free accessory software packages to enhance the browser.   I noticed that when I went into use WordPress, my formatting tools were missing. I finally decided upon looking at the accessories that I had installed.   Right away I chose to look at NoScript.   I went into the preferences and decided to add my…

Macintosh Firewire hard drive for open microphone use.

Macintosh Firewire hard drive for open microphone use.

I had to create five edit bays, a few years back, for a Broadcast Journalism program that allegedly got kicked out of a college lab facility for political reasons. Each new edit room was a closet sized room, close to being square in shape which was bad for standing waves. The small size was a problem as each edit bay would have a microphone available for voice overs to video and the close in walls would throw any ambiant sound…
